5 Nollywood movies with a deep message

Not all Nollywood movies are just entertaining, some also come with deep messages. Check out five Nollywood movies with more than just hilarious scenes.



It's okay to get tired of seeing movies that are entertaining, but have no real message.

Despite Nollywood having more of the above mentioned type of movies, there are also movies that inspire, educate and give you an excellent boost of motivation.

1. "Sinking Sands" - A message on domestic violence

In Sinking Sands, a tragic domestic home accident changes the lives of happily married newlyweds Pabi and Jimah.

Jimah, the one time loving husband, turns into a bitter, angry and abusive husband, intent on driving his wife away, and Pabi is torn between choosing love and life, companionship and independence.
The 2010 Ghanaian movie starred Jimmy Jean-Loius, Ama Abebrese, Yemi Blaq among others.

2. "Wives on Strike" - A message on child bride

It's a comedy with a deep message. The Omoni Oboli 2016 movie stars the actress alongside Uche Jombo, Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma Mcdermott, Kehinde Bankole, Kalu Ikeagwu, Julius Agwu, Kenneth Okonkwo among others.

Wives on Strike, is a hilarious comedy about a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father.
The women, who hilariously interpret their roles, set a series of events in motion to give the movie many moments of laughter without missing a beat on the reason for everyone to know why they are on strike.

3. "Dry" - A message on child brides and Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).

The 2015 Stephanie Linus movie ha to be one of the most emotional movies with a deep message.
Inspired by the true story of a young girl named Aisha, the movie features Darwin Shaw as Dr. Alex, the legendary Liz Benson Ameye as the Matron, Olu Jacobs as Speaker, and Bill McNamara as Dr. Brown.
'Dry' also stars Zubaida Ibrahim as Halima, the teenager who had to endure a life not designed for a child: to be married to a man who was more than four times her age.

4. "Shuga" - A message on HIV, safe sex and family planning.

Shuga Naija is a multimedia campaign which educates youths on HIV, safe sex and teen pregnancy. It also focuses on maternal and child health, family planning, gender-based violence, and women empowerment.
The fourth season of show starred Adesua Etomi, Olumide Oworu, Emmanuel Ikubese, Chris Attoh, Timini Egbuson, Sharon Ezeamaka, Dorcas Shola Fapson among others.

5. "Damage" - A message on domestic violence

The 2011 movie revolves around  prominent married couple,Taiwo and Sarah, whose love for each other is  marred by domestic violence.
They have a blissful and turbulent relationship, which affects their children. At the end, they lost their daughter during one of their fights. 
The movie was hilarious, but still found a way to pass the strong message. "Damage" features Uche Jombo, Kalu Ikeagwu,Tonto Dike among others.
